In early 2019, Allshelter, the leading manufacturer of container domes and shelters<\/a>, took on the task of devising a solution for establishing an on-site pre-cast facility to support the Batemans Bay bridge replacement project. They successfully installed and put the shelter into operation by mid-2019.<\/p>\n\n

By Christmas the same year, the Bateman’s Bay region was impacted by a bushfire. The fire circled the entire pre-cast facility but the shelter was not impacted!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n

Scope<\/h2>\n

When finished, the Bateman’s Bay Bridge replacement project will build better connections for motorists, logistics, river users, cyclists & pedestrians in the area. <\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The construction of the bridge involves pouring 166 concrete segments for the project. For this purpose, a temporary pre-cast facility was planned to be built about six kilometers south of Mogo, NSW. The location’s major benefits include minimizing environmental impact through the use of an existing quarry site. Additionally, it reduces heavy vehicle movements in the Batemans Bay town centre.<\/p>\n

The main contractor, John Holland & VSL Partnernship, engaged Allshelter to come up with a solution for covering an on-site pre-cast facility. A very specific need arose for a large shed or shelter measuring 33m wide by 100m long by 20m high. The other requirement included installing the facility in a short time-frame and whilst other site activities were going on!<\/p>\n

Solution<\/h2>\n

The Allshelter project management team promptly initiated their work by visiting the Batemans Bay site to assess specific requirements, collaborating with engineers to devise a suitable design. Throughout the process, Allshelter worked closely with the client on designs and solutions, ultimately producing a Fabric Building tailored to exact dimensions and specifications. They also developed a method to install the shelter concurrently with other site activities, offering a significant advantage in maintaining the project schedule.<\/p>\n

Outcome: Fabric Shelter<\/h2>\n

John Holland & VSL Partnership were extremely satisfied with the final results. The new fabric building proving very much a viable alternative to a steel shed, for the following reasons:<\/p>\n

              As mentioned above, a large, out-of-control bushfire in December 2019 severely impacted the Bateman’s Bay Region. The fire damaged property, leaving some residents homeless. The quality of the Fabric Building left a lasting impression on the client, as it withstood the fire without any impact.<\/p>\n

Allshelter was and is fantastic to work with, they were able to come up with a way for the shelter to be installed whilst other site activities were going on \u2013 a huge advantage for us.<\/em><\/p>\n

              This shelter is an excellent investment and provides benefits to us in many other ways: The shelter fabric lets the light in, which means that we don\u2019t need lighting during the day. It\u2019s also cooler, as the fabric doesn\u2019t radiate heat and being open ended it allows for airflow.<\/em><\/p>\n

              This area was also recently extensively burnt during the disastrous NSW south coast bushfires over summer. The fire circled the whole pre-cast facility yard, but the shelter was not impacted. It is still standing and there\u2019s virtually no damage to it! We\u2019re very impressed with the quality of Allshelter\u2019s product and the workmanship.<\/em><\/p>\n
